In an interview with WSJ Magazine, Jolie, 48, shared that her kids, each with unique personalities, have become her trusted friends, emphasizing their collective strength as a family.
"We're seven very different people, which is our strength," Jolie stated. The actress also revealed that healing was necessary for their family, and her children remain the most significant aspect of her life.
Despite her Hollywood background, Jolie admitted to a lack of a substantial social life, with her children being her primary circle. "I don't really have ... a social life," she noted. Jolie highlighted that her closest friends are refugees, with a significant number having experienced war and conflict.
Following her divorce from Brad Pitt, Jolie expressed a desire to leave Los Angeles, aiming to return more frequently to her home in Cambodia. She explained that the divorce restricted her ability to live and travel freely.
Reflecting on her upbringing in Hollywood, Jolie characterized the entertainment industry as "not a healthy place" and acknowledged her quest for authenticity. Growing up in what she described as a "shallow place," she asserted that Hollywood never held significant importance to her. Jolie's parents are actor Jon Voight and the late actress Marcheline Bertrand.
"I never bought into it as significant or important," she emphasized. Despite her successful career in Hollywood, Jolie's focus on authenticity and her deep connection with her children underscore a shift in her priorities and values.
