Angelina Jolie's Film Hiatus and Personal Healing Journey Revealed

Angelina Jolie's Film Hiatus and Personal Healing Journey Revealed

In a recent interview with Vogue magazine, Angelina Jolie opened up about her decision to reduce her film commitments starting seven years ago, focusing on projects that didn't require lengthy shoots. The Oscar-winning actress shared that during this period, she and her family needed time for healing and finding their footing.

While she did not delve into specific details, the timeline coincides with the end of her marriage to Brad Pitt, as she filed for divorce in September 2016 following an alleged incident on a plane.

Jolie acknowledged feeling somewhat down these days, revealing, "I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way. Which I don’t want to get into." Despite leading Disney's successful "Maleficent" in 2014 and co-starring with Pitt in "By the Sea" in 2015, Jolie's film output significantly decreased. Over the past eight years, she has taken on only two lead roles, including "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" in 2019 and "Those Who Wish Me Dead" in 2021.

During her hiatus, Jolie took on supporting roles in films like Marvel's "Eternals" (2021) and the 2020 fantasy film "Come Away." She also lent her voice to projects such as Disney's "The One and Only Ivan" (2020) and the upcoming "Kung Fu Panda 4."

Jolie used the interview to promote Atelier Jolie, her socially and environmentally conscious fashion line. She credited the company with aiding her emotional recovery during her Hollywood break. Reflecting on her fashion line, she mentioned, "I think part of this has also been therapeutic for me — to work in a creative space with people you trust and to rediscover yourself. I’m hoping to change many aspects of my life. And this is the forward-facing one."

The actress also shared insights into her evolving style, emphasizing the importance of feeling safe enough to be soft. Jolie, who turned 48, expressed that she is still in transition as a person, trying to understand her identity and style after going through challenging experiences.
