Actress Lindsay Lohan reunited with Tina Fey at the premiere of the Mean Girls musical movie in New York City. Lohan, who starred as Cady Heron in the original 2004 film, joined Fey, who wrote the screenplay and played math teacher Ms. Norbury, to support the cinematic adaptation of the 2017 stage musical.
Twenty years after the release of the original Mean Girls film, Fey revisited North Shore High School with a cinematic adaptation of the musical. Lohan attended the premiere to show her support for the project. Last year, Lohan reprised her Mean Girls role alongside former castmates Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert in a Walmart commercial.
The new Mean Girls movie features Reneé Rapp as Regina George, reprising her role from the musical's Broadway run. The cast also includes Auliʻi Cravalho, Christopher Briney, Jaquel Spivey, Bebe Wood, Avantika, Busy Phillipps, Jon Hamm, Jenna Fischer, Ashley Park, and Tim Meadows.
In an interview with EW, Fey discussed the challenges of balancing familiarity with new additions when creating Mean Girls for the second time. She emphasized the importance of finding genuine new moments and subverting expectations for the film to resonate with audiences. Reflecting on the experience, Fey humorously mentioned feeling like she was in a Twilight Zone episode where she writes the same movie repeatedly.
