Melinda French Gates has clarified that the dissolution of her marriage with Bill Gates was not solely attributed to one reason but rather a culmination of various factors. Speaking to interviewer Gayle King, French Gates emphasized that it was "not one thing but many things" that led to the end of their marriage.
One significant factor contributing to the strain in their relationship was reported to be Bill Gates' alleged affair with a Microsoft employee, a matter that came to the attention of the company's board in 2019. Despite expressing a belief in forgiveness, French Gates revealed that there were multiple issues they had been working through.
“I certainly believe in forgiveness, so I thought we had worked through some of that,” French Gates told King. “It wasn’t one moment or one specific thing that happened. There just came a point in time where there was enough there where I realized it just wasn’t healthy, and I couldn’t trust what we had.”
The former couple, founders of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, have three children together: daughters Jennifer, 25, and Phoebe, 19, and son Rory, 22. The revelation provides a glimpse into the complexities and challenges that led to the decision to end their longstanding marriage.
