Actress Melissa McCarthy, known for her roles in films like "Bridesmaids" and "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" is set to make a return to the Super Bowl ad scene with a 30-second spot for Booking.com during the upcoming game's fourth quarter. McCarthy, who previously appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for Kia in 2017, expressed the unique demands of Super Bowl ad preparation, emphasizing the need for "raw eggs and squats."
In a teaser released ahead of the game, McCarthy is depicted in a luxurious setting, enjoying a foot massage and the high life. The Booking.com ad reflects consumers' enduring interest in travel after the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Arjan Dijk, Booking.com's Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, noted that while the company doesn't take itself too seriously, it is committed to its business. McCarthy's comedic efforts for Booking.com are expected to leave a lasting impression, similar to the impact of their 2022 Super Bowl campaign featuring Idris Elba.
Dijk revealed that the Super Bowl ad is part of a broader marketing strategy, with various executions ranging from 15 seconds to six seconds. The company plans to give away half a million dollars in vacation funds, with 50 winners each receiving $10,000 in travel credits.
McCarthy, who plays nine different characters in under a minute for the ad, expressed her excitement about the project and mentioned her personal use of Booking.com. The comedic spots also feature cameos by Ben Falcone, McCarthy's husband and longtime collaborator.
As McCarthy prepares for the ad's airing during the Super Bowl on February 12, she anticipates a relaxed viewing experience at home with family, including her parents, kids, and dogs. Reflecting on the upcoming moment, she humorously shared expectations of her family's reactions, describing the scene as "perfect" in her eyes.
