Prince Philip Queen Elizabeth II's Husband Undergoes Successful Heart Procedure

Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday that Prince Philip, the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has undergone a successful heart procedure at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London. The Duke of Edinburgh was transferred to the cardiac unit for treatment of a pre-existing heart condition. Royal officials stated that Prince Philip would remain in the hospital for treatment, rest, and recuperation for several days.

Prince Philip's hospitalization began on February 16 at the King Edward VII Hospital, where he was initially expected to stay for a few days after walking in unaided. Subsequently, he was being treated for an infection. On Monday, he was transferred to St Bartholomew's Hospital for testing and observation related to his pre-existing heart condition.

The prince, who will turn 100 on June 10, has now spent over two weeks in the hospital, marking his longest-ever stay. Prince Philip had a stent fitted in 2011 for a blocked coronary artery, and the recent heart procedure is the latest development in his health challenges.

Prince Philip's daughter-in-law, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, mentioned on Wednesday that he was "slightly improving" but experienced moments of discomfort. Prince Charles, Prince Edward, and Prince William have all provided updates on his health, expressing hope for his recovery.

While Prince Philip undergoes treatment, Queen Elizabeth II, at 94, has continued with her royal duties. The couple, married for over 73 years, remains a symbol of stability within the royal family. The announcement of Prince Philip's health comes amid ongoing criticism from Meghan Markle, who, in an upcoming Oprah Winfrey interview, accused Buckingham Palace of "perpetuating falsehoods." Additionally, the palace is investigating allegations of bullying by Meghan against household staff, as reported by The Times newspaper.
