Shelley Duvall Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles and Refusal of Treatment

Shelley Duvall, best known for her roles in "The Shining" and "Popeye," has revealed that she is currently grappling with undisclosed mental health issues. In an exclusive interview with Radar Online, the 67-year-old actress disclosed her sense of isolation as friends stopped returning her calls.

Despite the challenges she is facing, Duvall expressed her resistance to seeking treatment in a facility, likening it to a form of imprisonment. She recounted an unsettling experience where she felt confined during a photo session, emphasizing the subtle nature of the restrictions.

Duvall's financial situation has also become a source of distress, with the actress claiming she has nothing to show for her contributions to blockbuster movies and TV series. She voiced frustration over her lack of financial stability, stating that her income is limited to a Social Security check of $1,660.

Expressing a desire to claim what she believes is rightfully hers, Duvall referenced her efforts to inquire about profits from the distribution of her work, particularly mentioning a call to CBS/FOX Video. According to her account, she was shocked to learn about an $18 million net profit, of which she claims to have seen none.

While Duvall has not received an official mental health diagnosis, she acknowledged her struggles during a November appearance on the "Dr. Phil" show. During the show, she spoke about conspiracy theories, asserting that actor Robin Williams was still alive and expressing fears of being threatened by the fictional character "Sheriff of Nottingham" from "Robin Hood."
