The 39-year-old actress and co-founder of The Honest Company graces the March cover of Romper, delving into how embracing motherhood in 2008 with her daughter Honor altered her perspective on both health and career.
"My mother battled cancer at a young age. Several women in my family succumbed to different forms of cancer, none genetically linked," Alba revealed, noting her own history of chronic illness.
"I underwent five surgeries before turning 11. Persistent allergies and frequent hospitalizations marked my childhood. There was a pivotal moment for me—I wanted to not just exist but truly live, dedicating ample time to this little life I brought into the world," she expressed. "My health became paramount. Happiness is elusive without good health."
"That was my driving force," stated the Sin City star. "My focus wasn't on whether I'd secure future roles; frankly, I was at the peak of my career."Post Honor's birth, Alba recognized that she "couldn't revert to my previous path and remain authentic. The spark had faded. It became something more profound."
"I felt a responsibility. If I had this platform, what meaningful impact could I make?" she pondered. "The reality hit me hard when I became a mom for the first time."
The Honey actress, also a mother to Haven, 9, and Hayes, 3, with husband Cash Warren, 42, has recently returned to acting, notably in the TV series L.A.'s Finest alongside Gabrielle Union.Last month, Alba disclosed her father Mark Alba's battle with thyroid cancer and his journey through "radiation therapy."
